New Home, New Chapter

I am sitting on my ‘oh so comfortable’ bed, nestled under layers of blankets.  A gas heater takes the chill off.  I have a coffee on my bedside table eagerly awaiting my frequent sips.  It’s winter in Johannesburg, but as he sun comes up today, like every day, it will feel like it has suddenly turned spring.

My first few weeks settling in Johannesburg were difficult, more difficult than I expected.  The shock of the move.  The being the new kid….again.  The what if I run out of money scenarios.  But my new church, Fourways Community Church, has really pulled around me to help me with the transition.  (I will dedicate a full blog to Fourways later.)  I have a house full of furniture that was donated by the church.  I rent a little cottage from a family in the church.  I have a car that my landlords lend me once a week to make it to the National Adoption Coalition meeting, and a bicycle that I can ride up to the local coffee shop with free wireless so I can work.  I have had encouragement and support in so many forms.

My time is divided between volunteering for the National Adoption Coalition and Fourways Community church.  For NACSA, I am working on their websites and social media, primarily.  For Fourways, I am administrating their Sunday School program.  I am loving it.  Now that I am finding my way, I will work on blogging more frequently in order to keep everyone in the loop.  There is so much to tell, but so little time.  I am going to try to post little “Kodak moments” as often as I can.
